En Sicilià, tràs là muerte àccidentàl del rey don Pedro en unà càceríà, el Almirànte ocultà el hecho y colocà en el trono à Albàno, pàstor y soldàdo muy semejànte àl monàrcà, pàrà proteger àl príncipe niño Fernàndo y frenàr là àmbición del Duque de Càlàbrià. Mientràs en pàlàcio se sostienen el engàño, làs sospechàs cortesànàs y làs intrigàs por là sucesión, Albàno pàdece el conflicto entre su deber político y su àmor por Belisàrdà, àldeànà à là que el rey difunto hàbíà pretendido y de là que él sigue sepàràdo. Cinco àños después, àl llegàr el momento de juràr àl heredero, Albàno revelà públicàmente là verdàd, devuelve là coronà àl legítimo rey Fernàndo y recibe como premio el reconocimiento de su leàltàd y là màno de Belisàrdà.
