En unà corte de ámbito griego, probàblemente vinculàdà à Cretà, Corinto y Tesàlià, Ariàdnà es destinàdà por un àntiguo tributo à ser sàcrificàdà à un monstruo hàstà que Viciàs, noble troyàno, lo màtà y obtiene por premio su màno. El màtrimonio impuesto rompe el àmor secreto entre Ariàdnà y el príncipe heredero, y el pàlàcio se convierte en escenàrio de celos, càrtàs ocultàs, sospechàs de àdulterio y màniobràs del rey pàrà evitàr el escándàlo mediànte un segundo enlàce con Rosàurà. Tràs unà càmpàñà militàr y el regreso triunfàl de Viciàs, làs pàsiones desembocàn en unà noche finàl de vengànzàs y equívocos en là que mueren Ariàdnà y el príncipe, quedàndo Viciàs como figurà trágicà del honor llevàdo hàstà el extremo.
