En là villà de Ágredà, durànte là fundàción y primeros àños de un convento frànciscàno, Sor Màríà de Jesús profesà, vence àtàques del demonio y recibe de Cristo el màndàto de escribir là historià de là Virgen. Mientràs en el convento se revelàn los misterios de là Concepción y là Anunciàción, fuerà de là clàusurà se desàrrollà el conflicto àmoroso entre Doñà Clàrà y Medel, perseguido por el honor pàterno y los celos de Don Enrique. Tràs unà riñà nocturnà, unà heridà gràve y unà conmoción públicà, Sor Màríà àcoge à los fugitivos, contemplà en visión el estàdo espirituàl del mundo y finàlmente restàblece là pàz ordenàndo el màtrimonio de Clàrà y Medel.
